The senior parking lot was packed, forcing some unfortunate souls who arrived just a little bit too late to endure the grueling trek from the junior lot all the way to Trinity Hall. But it was all worth it in the end. The reason for the sparse availability of parking space was that blood drive volunteers and staff needed the lot for equipment and further preparation for this important event. The annual Delbarton Blood Drive was held Thursday, March 30th and was, as it always is, a major success. 190 people donated, producing a total of 221 units of blood, enough to help upwards of 600 people, making this blood drive Delbarton’s most successful to date.

Students above 16 years of age were eligible to donate; however, underclassmen were able to contribute as well, helping register donors and distribute food. Some donors however endured some symptoms afterwards such as fatigue and lightheadedness, downing drinks and sugared food to try to replenish and re-energize themselves. These minor inconveniences, however, pale in comparison to the benefits these donations bring, and many students promised to participate again next year.

A big “thank you” goes out to New Jersey Blood Services who organized the blood drive, as well as to the Campus Ministry and the Mother’s Guild, both of whom helped administer and coordinate the entire event. Campus Minister Dr. David Hajduk said, “Blood is more than a symbol for life – it is necessary for life! Today we give of ourselves so others might have life. In this way, we share the very mission of Jesus!” And, of course, a big thank you to everyone who participated. Community service has always served as one of the core values of Delbarton School, and this week’s blood drive proved just that.
