“Imposters”: Well Worth the Investment

Imagine waking up one day to find that all of your money is gone. A few months ago, you met the girl of your dreams, and she was absolutely perfect. From the beginning, you knew she was “the one,” the person with whom you would spend the rest of your life. But after only four weeks of marriage, she disappears – with all of your money! You come to the shocking realization that your one true love has stolen all of your money.

This is the basis of the new television show Imposters. While purchasing a puppy twenty-nine days after his wedding, Ezra discovered that none of his credit cards were working. When at an ATM, he further learned that his bank account had been drained completely. His wife, Ava, has disappeared, and her phone number has been disconnected. In a pre-recorded video Ava left behind, she explained, “You will never see me again. The sooner you accept it, the better it is for everybody.” As it turns out, Ava has sufficient evidence on Ezra’s father’s promiscuous affairs and patent-stealing secrets that would destroy him and his family if he turns to the police for help. As the show progresses, the audience learns that Ava’s actual name is Maddie, and she works with two other con-men.

In a dramatic plot twist, Ezra and Richard, one of Maddie’s previous victims, team up to track her down and seek revenge. Furthermore, the duo realizes that they must adopt some of Maddie’s tactics and start conning people themselves if they ever want to fund their mission. To do so, they research film plots and read a plethora of books in order to master “the art of con”. As they finally arrive at Maddie’s apartment, another plot twist emerges. The person who answers the door isn’t Maddie… Who is it? Well, you are going to have to watch the show to find out.

Indeed, Imposters proves to be an excellent emerging show. This show, which premiered on February 7, 2017, on Bravo TV, contains several plot twists and is continually shifting directions. The comedic elements makes this drama even more interesting. Although the two victims want to gain revenge over Maddie’s wrongful actions, they are both extremely heart-broken. Indeed, both are motivated by the belief that they can restore their relationship. Moreover, the sub-plots, such as Maddie’s potential love interest, further captivate the audience throughout the duration of the show. While Ezra and Richard continue to demonstrate determination to exact revenge, the audience is wondering whether or not Maddie is worth supporting in her endeavors of gaining the affection of her new victims. This unexpected journey for the viewer is what makes the show so interesting.
