“Once a brother, always a brother.” This common saying about brotherhood not only epitomizes the spirit of Delbarton, it was seen in action during Delbarton’s 2017 Homecoming. On October 14, alumni from all different classes and their families were welcomed back to their “home away from home.” Those iconic white tents dotted the lawn in front of Old Main, with more Delbarton merchandise, Cluck-U-Chicken, and sugary treats than anyone can handle.

The weekend festivities were kicked off by a raucous student-led pep rally in the New Gym. This year’s Pep Rally certainly did not disappoint, as the Senior Council organized a slew of captivating, entertaining, and hilarious presentations that had students cheering on their feet. One of the best segments was an all out brawl between three sets of senior twins. There was a stockpile of weapons in the middle, and ominous Game of Thrones music played in the background as the twins began to fight. Another memorable event was the cook off between Mr. Bennett and Coach Chi. Both teachers were given an unorthodox set of ingredients and had to make a sandwich for Mr. Murphy (who bravely agreed to be the taste tester). The last event was a tug of war against the three biggest football players sporting crop tops. The two challengers, the soccer team and then the seventh graders, bravely faced them down and won, making the crowd go wild.

By far, the main attraction at Homecoming was the varsity football game against DePaul, a top ranked team. The entire student body congregated in the junior lot in eager anticipation. Led by a group of seniors in a car, the students walked down together, eventually running onto the field to form a tunnel for the football team. The students then formed “the pit” to cheer on the football team. Managing to tie up the game 7-7 in the first quarter, the team showed their mettle and proved that they can compete with some of the best teams in the state.

While the football game was the hallmark of Homecoming, the area around the senior garden and was replete with lively festivities. Among these were a cotton candy and popcorn stand, pony rides, a bouncy house, and an inflatable slide. To cap it all off, there was even a fire truck painted green and white parked in front of the FAC. Milling around the senior garden and commons were former alumni.  Students who graduated just a year ago came back loaded with new experiences and tales from college. Overall, this year’s Homecoming was definitely one to remember.
