Delbarton Welcomes Three New Members to the Hall of Honor
On October 4, 2024, the night before homecoming, three new members were welcomed into Delbarton’s Hall of Honor. Perry Beneduce (‘74), Troy Murphy (‘98), and former athletic director Dan Whalen. Delbarton has always put an emphasis on “all in,” and these three men embodied that fully.
Perry Beneduce, class of ‘74, worked at AT&T for 29 years, making a career in marketing and customer satisfaction. After this, he took up a career in real estate for the company Diane Turton. He has shown amazing dedication to Delbarton for the last 50 years. He served two terms as the President of the Alumni board and made major contributions to the growth of the Homecoming Weekend. He changed the event from a small gathering to the campus-wide “happening” that we saw on October 5th. His dedication to Delbarton and “all in” attitude have earned him a spot in Delbarton’s Hall of Honor.
Troy Murphy, class of ‘98, had an exciting NBA career and is currently an entrepreneur. Murphy’s NBA career was fueled by his time at Delbarton, where he was coached by his fellow Hall of Honor inductee, Dan Whalen. He spoke on how Delbarton helped impress collaboration, acceptance and belonging on him. In Mr. Murphy’s words, “you may leave here, but what you learned never leaves you.”
Mr. Dan Whalen was involved in Delbarton athletics for almost 40 years! He spent 16 of those years serving as Delbarton’s 4th Athletic Director. He currently oversees the Pizzo Family Field House and continues to serve Delbarton athletics. Students can see his impact firsthand as the new basketball gym is named after him. His impact on Delbarton athletics and the community of Delbarton is why he is so deserving of the Hall of Honor. “I came here to make a living, and I made a life.”
