The Delbarton Green Wave Ice Hockey team is ready for its 2024-2025 season. Last year, the Green Wave boasted an impressive 17-7 record, with a winning record in the Gordon American division. After losing in the Gordon Cup Championship Game, Delbarton bounced back in hopes of winning the NJSIAA State Championship. Unfortunately, after a strong run, Delbarton fell to St. Augustine in the semifinal round of the tournament. Delbarton’s hockey team has faced plenty of challenges over the years, squaring off against the state’s best teams and losing many players to transfers and injuries. Still, they have crafted an outstanding 57-16-3 record over the past three years and hope to put together yet another competitive season.
I caught up with Captain Jack Ross, a forward on Delbarton’s hockey team, as he prepares for his 2024-2025 senior campaign. I asked him what his personal goals are for the team and what he is looking forward to the most. Ross replied, “Our goal for this season is to win the Gordon Cup Conference Championship and State Championship. In the past few years, we obviously haven’t capitalized on that as much as we’d have liked. This year, I believe we have a great group who can get it done.”
I then inquired about the team’s camaraderie and brotherhood, asking what it has meant to the team’s success in the past and how Ross would use his leadership platform to try and continue that this season. Ross highlighted the team’s brotherhood, sharing that “the camaraderie is usually strong on the Delbarton’s hockey teams. Traditionally, the best teams have had great connections and strong environments. It’s important to have positive relationships across the team if we want to succeed. This year especially, I feel we have great team camaraderie, and I think it will pay off.”
As Ross and the other seniors prepare for their final season as a part of the Green Wave, the Delbarton Hockey Team seems confident in their group. The return of the Delbarton Green Wave seems inevitable, and within a few months, the Gordon Cup and NJSIAA trophy could return to Morristown.
