Recently, sightings of various, mysterious drones across New Jersey have sparked curiosity and apprehension among area residents. Starting in November, these flying machines have been sighted flying over Morris, Hunterdon, Passaic, and Bergen Counties, with even some Delbarton students witnessing them first-hand near residential areas such as nearby Bedminster, NJ. Sightings also have been reported near Picatinny Arsenal and Fort Dix Combined Military Base. What exactly are these drones doing, what is their intention and why are they being flown near New Jersey residents and their homes? These unanswered questions have sparked anxiety and concern about public safety and security among local residents.
One of the more obvious explanations is that these drones are part of a US military experiment or program. Given their proximity to the Picatinny Arsenal, a military base located in Morris County, it has been hypothesized that the US government is testing some new technology. However, the Arsenal has announced that they are unaware of the source of these drones, driving us to look into other possibilities.
It has also been theorized that these drones are part of a foreign intelligence movement, trying to gather data on US citizens or just the land in general. For instance, many were reminded of the Chinese spy balloon that was shot down in early 2023. Given this possibility, citizens and members of New Jersey legislation have been urging the Department of Defense and other bureaus to take action. However, the Pentagon has released an official statement denying hypotheses such as the possibility of the drones being from an Iranian mothership off the eastern seaboard.
Due to the lack of any official information about the source of these drones from law enforcement agencies, further investigations have been launched into details such as commercial drone activity and aviation flight schedules. Some security experts, however, believe that such efforts will not help very much. It’s been further theorized that these drones flights are meant to be experiments conducted by higher-up military officials with the authority to bypass various safety and other institutional regulations. Given the appearance of some of these drones, some believe that the government may be testing out new infrared scanning and data collection technology and that the details of such plans are being limited to those with higher authority, especially given the lack of action by the government.
As time goes on, further details will be revealed about the nature of these drones. In a press conference, incoming president Donald Trump alluded to a briefing that he received on the topic, although he provided no details on the information was presented with. As for now, New Jersey residents are unable to do much except to wait and see what happens next.
