Las Vegas is the ‘Entertainment Capital of the World’. There are plenty of activities on and off “The Strip” along with the overwhelming number of amazing restaurants to choose from. Below is a list of the “must do’s” when you visit Las Vegas!
See a Show – “Awakening”
“Awakening”, voted as the best production show of the year in Las Vegas, is performed at the Wynn Resort. The arena-style theater is quite small, but it does give the audience a clear angle and excellent sight-lines of the full stage. As the lights dimmed and the narrator elevated from a layer of mist to begin the show; I knew this was about to be spectacular. The music was composed thoughtfully because it not only set the mood for the audience, but also paired up perfectly with the unique costumes. Magic/circus elements and atmosphere were incorporated from scene to scene and the moving set made the plot more interactive. For the inexpensive ticket price, “Awakening” is a once in a lifetime experience.
Eat at Restaurant – Peter Luger Steakhouse
Peter Luger Steakhouse is one of the most famous steakhouse restaurants in the United States. I was dazzled by the interior of the restaurant. At the front is an oval-shaped bar that houses all the exotic alcohol products you can think of. Towards the back end of the restaurant is the dining room. From the table where I was seated, I could see the chefs firing up their pans and grilling slabs of meats for their hungry customers. I was soon greeted with a bowl of fresh assorted breads, a plate of Caesar Salad, and Luger’s Special German Fried Potatoes. Then, the star of the show arrived; the signature dry-aged steak for two. I drizzled some of the restaurant’s famous steak sauce on a slice of steak and took a bite. The meat was so tender and succulent that it literally melted in my mouth. It also paired perfectly with the side dishes, balancing out the oily layer that covered steak. In a blink of an eye, all of the plates were wiped clean.
Visit the Attraction – The Hoover Dam
The Hoover Dam was constructed during the Great Depression as a WPA project to provide hydroelectric power for the Southwest and put many workers back on the job. As the tour bus approached the gateway, I was able to catch a glimpse of the massive Hoover Dam. The view was absolutely breathtaking. Quickly, I hopped off the bus to tour the power plant. I was taken down to a deep tunnel that housed the vast passages and pipes that comprise the foundation of the dam. There were also many massive turbine generators that turned the flowing water from the dam into hydroelectric power. It was even more fascinating to realize that all of this was constructed by hand in a time where people could barely buy enough food and water. When the tour was over, I walked across the small road atop of the Hoover Dam. As I leaned over the edge, I immediately jumped back from my fear of heights. My legs began to shake and I barely made my journey across the dam. Before the trip came to an end, I climbed up a narrow trail that took me to the Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. From that height, I was able to see the whole Hoover Dam lodged in between two canyons. I was awestruck by the monumental construction and was amazed by its majesty.
There are countless other activities to choose from in Las Vegas, but I listed above the ones I personally thought were the most memorable. Las Vegas is a place for anyone and for anything. You just have to find the right place that fits you the best. From then on, the possibilities are infinite .
