Delbarton Golf Update

Following a long winter, golf courses remained flooded and unplayable, even after spring sports at Delbarton were already underway. Midway through May, however, the Delbarton Golf team has a Morris County Tournament Championship under its belt, and is ranked well within the top twenty high school teams in New Jersey, placing fourth as of April 29th. Contributing to the golf team’s recent success is sophomore Bobby Mulcahy, who shot an 84 at the MCT. He elaborated on some of the most challenging aspects of the season thus far:

“The hardest challenge so far has to be the necessity to be patient. One of the hardest things about golf is waiting until you can make your surge and eliminate any mental mistakes you had made on the earlier holes. I’ve realizes that to wait for an opportunity to make a birdie is the hardest thing to overcome, however, it is the patience that can save a round of golf,” Mulcahy said.

Although the Delbarton Golf Team is carrying momentum off the MCT tourney win, there is still work to be done. Fierce competitors such as Bergen Catholic are also amidst the top teams in the Non-Public A North Division, and as usual, the Delbarton squad will garner a great deal of attention for the remainder of the season. Mulcahy also recognizes the personal battles that need to be won in order to achieve team success this season as he foresees,

“The hardest challenge for the rest of the season is to become smarter around the course and don’t take on too many risks. By doing this, I can contribute consistently… becoming smarter on the course will correlate to better scoring, which will enhance our team’s ability to play well and win,” he noted.
