For the 43rd year, the Delbarton Blood Drive will take place on Thursday, April 24th, from 7:30 to 4:00 in the Abbot Clark Gym. The Delbarton Blood Drive is conducted by the Delbarton Campus Ministry and the Delbarton Mothers Guild in order to provide New Jersey Blood Services with blood donations to meet ongoing medical treatments. The Delbarton Blood Drive is a cause personal to the Delbarton Community, as Abbot Giles Peter Hayes relied on blood transfusions later in his life. Over the past 43 years, Delbarton’s donations of blood have saved 12,000 lives.
Volunteers can give two types of donations: ALYX units and whole blood units. A volunteer who donates in whole blood units gives red blood cells, white blood cells, and plasma. A volunteer who donates in ALYX units gives twice as much red blood cells while the white blood cells and plasma are returned to the body.
A member of the Delbarton community over the age of sixteen can sign up to donate blood and help save lives. Sixteen year old donors must fill out a consent form HERE and all student donors must fill out a parent/guardian consent form HERE . Students, faculty, family, families, alumni, and friends are all welcome. Donations are by appointment, but walk-ins are welcomed. All donors must show an ID (a driver’s license, donor card or Student ID if age 16). All donors must be in good health and weigh more than 110 pounds. Delbarton requires that all student donors present written consent from parent or guardian. All donors should eat regular meals on donation day. All donors must wear a mask and be 14 days symptom-free if recovering from COVID-19. Potential donors may not donate if they are currently on self-quarantine restrictions. After donations are made, the donors are free to partake in food and refreshments provided by the Delbarton Mothers Guild.
Thanks to Nurse McAuliffe, the student coordinators, the mission and ministry office, and Delbarton School, the Delbarton community can come together and have a great experience while saving lives in the process!
