On August 24, thousands of Americans from across the country flock to Queens, New York to witness one of the greatest spectacles of the year: The US Tennis Open. Out of the four grand slam events, the US Open is considered the “crowned jewel” as it offers the biggest prize money, late light matches, and an electrifying atmosphere.
This 2025 US Open was nothing short of a spectacle. From the opening rounds, there were huge upsets and emotional wins. A star player that caught everyone’s attention this year was Naomi Osaka. Despite some setbacks, she stood strong and advanced to the semi-finals. Of course, the match that everyone was looking forward to was the men’s final between Alcaraz and Sinner. These two players brought tennis to another level, incorporating signature moves such as behind the back shots and crazy over head winners. After a grueling two and a half hour match, Alcaraz took the Grand Slam Title and celebrated his win with a huge party.
Among all of this excitement, Delbarton was also able to make its appearance at the 2025 US Open with a player of its own…Brayden Bonetti. This year, Brayden Bonetti was chosen to be one of the trophy holders for the 2025 US Open trophy ceremony. Here was his experience.
Question: Before we begin, can you tell me a bit about your tennis career?
Answer: I started playing tennis when I was three years-old. I have been playing competitively for a couple of years. I am about ten UTR and have played some of the top 15 kids in the country. I really enjoy playing tennis and I get to travel around the country every other week.
Q: How did it feel being the trophy-presenter at the US Open?
A: I was super-excited to be the trophy presenter at the US Open. I was kind of hoping that Djokovic would make it to the finals because it would have been his 25th major and I have some connections with him from where I train. I was so excited to see Alcaraz and Sinner play because they both hit the ball so clean. As the trophy presenter, I not only got to watch the match but also had the opportunity to step onto the court to see how the players felt when they were playing. When I actually grabbed the trophy, it was such a surreal experience because I have never done anything this crazy before. Having your every move watched by the whole stadium was very scary and I could just feel the excitement in the atmosphere.
Q: What else did you do at the US Open?
A: I have volunteered at the US Open for some years. However this year, I could not watch any of the non-final matches because I was playing at other tournaments. However, before the trophy presentation, I got to go backstage and see the trophies up close. I also saw a lot of US Open merchandise such as the clothing the ball boys had to wear. Surprisingly, because President Trump was at the tournament, I got to meet some secretive service agents which made my experience even more exciting. Even though I could not make it to any of the non-final matches at the US Open, I still had an amazing time and will always remember this experience.
