On a picture-perfect October 5, Delbarton School once again opened its doors—and hearts—to welcome over a thousand prospective students and their families during its annual Open House. Held from 12 to 3 p.m. on the School’s sprawling 187-acre campus in Morristown, New Jersey, the event offered a compelling look at what makes Delbarton not just a school, but a thriving brotherhood rooted in Benedictine Catholic values and academic excellence.
From the moment guests arrived, the spirit of Delbarton was unmistakable: energetic, welcoming, and deeply authentic. The event kicked off in the Fine Arts Center Theater, where Dean of Admissions and Director of Financial Aid Mr. Jake Ross welcomed families, setting the tone for the afternoon with warmth and transparency about the admissions process. Headmaster Fr. Michael Tidd, OSB followed with remarks that illuminated Delbarton’s mission-driven ethos, shaped by the Benedictine tradition of faith, community, and learning.
Transportation Director Mr. Zack Tabor also addressed a key concern for many families: getting to and from campus. With students commuting from over 120 towns, Delbarton’s well-organized transportation network ensures that geography is never a barrier to opportunity.
Real Talk from Real Students
Perhaps the most compelling portion of the event came from those who know Delbarton best—its students. Five current students, ranging from 7th to 10th grade, joined Mr. Ross for a lively Q&A panel moderated by audience-submitted text questions. Overflowing beyond the theater into Spada Commons and the Student Commons where it was live-streamed, the session touched on everything from time management and extracurricular life to the social dynamics of an all-boys school.
Panelists spoke with refreshing candor and wit, tackling questions like how they balance school, activities and sports, what they’d change about the school, and what “brotherhood” really means at Delbarton.
A Window Into Middle School Life
Families interested in the Middle School program stayed for an in-depth presentation by Director of Middle School Ms. Nora McSorley, followed by informal conversations with a group of enthusiastic Middle School “lifers.” These students, proud representatives of the younger grades, provided firsthand accounts of their journeys and were eager to answer questions from both students and parents.
Explore More – Online and On Campus
Throughout the afternoon, Delbarton’s campus buzzed with activity as Student Ambassadors led tours, introducing visitors to key programs and departments. From Robotics and Entrepreneurship to College Guidance and the Arts, faculty and staff were on hand for breakout sessions across Trinity Hall, St. Benedict Hall, Old Main, and more. Athletic coaches and student-athletes welcomed families at the Pizzo Family Field House, accessible via shuttle, to discuss Delbarton’s competitive and inclusive athletic offerings.
Can’t make it in person? Delbarton’s Online Open House offers a robust virtual companion to the on-campus experience. Families can explore an interactive campus map, watch videos highlighting academics, arts, athletics, and faith life, and hear directly from students and faculty about what it means to be part of the Delbarton community. It’s a valuable resource for those beginning their admissions journey—or those looking to relive the day.
A School Like No Other
Delbarton’s Open House is more than just an event—it’s an invitation to experience a community built on purpose, integrity, and growth. The enthusiasm from both guests and hosts made one thing abundantly clear: Delbarton is a place where young men are inspired to pursue their passions, build meaningful relationships, and prepare for lives of leadership and service.
Whether through a handshake with a coach, a candid conversation with a student, or a deep dive online, families walked away with a sense that Delbarton is not just about where you learn—but who you become.
