Spring Coffeehouse Review

Shan Rizwan, Co-Editor

The Delbarton Coffeehouse is the most fun you’ll have in a band room on a Friday night.

If you don’t already know, a coffeehouse is an event aimed to raise money or awareness about a particular issue. During this time, musicians, singers, poets, and more perform.

Don’t let the name fool you, however.  There was no coffee at the Delbarton Coffeehouse at 7:00 PM on Friday May 13th, 2016. Despite a lack of caffeine, groups such as the Jazz Combo and Rock Band filled the java void.

From 7-10 PM, students, parents, and teachers were jamming away to a wide genre of music ranging from punk rock to High School Musical show tunes. In total, there were 18 different performing acts including the Jazz Combo and the Benedictones.

Delbarton has many talented students, but the Coffeehouse would not be complete without the participation of girls from other high schools coming to perform. Talented young women hailed from the Academy of St. Elizabeth, Villa Walsh Academy, Mount Saint Mary’s Academy, and many other schools. With this large showing, the night never felt stale.

Overall, the Spring Delbarton Coffeehouse was a success in several regards. First, the Delbarton community was able to help raise funds for the East Africa Ambulance Project, a non-profit organization that purchases ambulances for people in Africa who do not have access to them. Second, the Coffeehouse hosted a number of unforgettable performances. With that being said, I encourage you, the reader, to come to the next Coffeehouse in the fall if you are looking for great music and even greater memories.
