You were running late. You had little or nothing for breakfast. Maybe you just weren’t hungry at all. But now, it’s Lunch Block, and you have nothing on your mind except getting up to the cafeteria for a great Sage meal. The point is – you’re hungry!  It was tough, but you finally managed the wait and now you can eat your lunch. Yes, hunger can be an annoyance, but waiting for lunch pales in comparison to the hardships that many face on a day-to-day basis. Hunger is a real problem and it’s affecting people here, right in Morris County.

Year after year, Delbarton sets ambitious goals to end hunger. Most notably, the Thanksgiving Food Drive aims to fill the Interfaith Food Pantry which helps needy families right here in Morris County. Last year, we set a 75,000 pound goal for Delbarton’s 75th Anniversary. This year, we set a 50,000 pound goal just for the Thanksgiving collection. While the collection location wasn’t the same as last year – the determined purpose and drive are alive and well.

You might think hunger isn’t a problem in one of the wealthiest areas in the United States. Unfortunately, it still is and many are affected – those who come from similar backgrounds and neighborhoods as you! The Interfaith Food Pantry offers not only food, but also education and resources to those families in need, with an ultimate goal of self-sufficiency for all. The goal of 50,000 pounds of food collected seemed to be ebbing away from us.  Late in the game we were trailing but the Green Wave Community rallied in “the bottom of the ninth” and concluded the food drive by donating in excess of 54, 300 pounds to the Interfaith Food Pantry!

Delbarton’s  community spirit never fails to amaze me. We always seem to find a way to get things accomplished. I am proud that we achieved this goal!  Thank you for your  generosity – every pound is a step toward eliminating hunger.
