Can Our Community Answer the Call?

The 2022 Delbarton Thanksgiving Food Drive

While Thanksgiving often makes us think of turkey and football, it should also be remembered as a day of gratitude and giving.  The annual Thanksgiving Food Drive presents Delbarton students and families with an opportunity to show the true spirit of the holiday by giving back to the community around us. On Thursday, November 10, 2022, students should bring their assigned food items to their Deanery before school. During homeroom, deaneries will sort, pack and load the donations into trucks bound for the Interfaith Food Pantry. Later, student volunteers will unload the trucks and help stock shelves at the Pantry.

The need for donations has never been greater. According to Matthew Kovachik, “Considering the rise in inflation and the rise in the cost of gas, oil and electricity as well as lingering supply chain issues, many people are warning that even more people will struggle to buy the food that their family depends upon on a daily basis.” The Thanksgiving Food Drive can single-handedly stock the shelves for a year, so our help is crucial in feeding those in need throughout Morris County.

Last year, the Delbarton Food Drive gathered over 9,300 pounds of food for the Pantry.  If each and every student does his part and brings his assigned foods items, we can equal or exceed last year’s total. The assigned food items are easy to acquire and can be bought in bulk. As Abbott Giles once said, “To whom much is given, much is expected in return.” Together, the Delbarton community can make this year’s food drive the most successful yet.

However, not too long after the Food Drive, Delbarton will soon be hosting its annual Christmas Toy Drive so stay tuned for more news!
