At 7pm on April 25th and 2pm on April 26th Delbarton hosted its annual Cabaret/One Acts night. The performance consisted of one acted out scene along with multiple singers performing their practiced pieces. Overall, the night was a huge success and a wonderful conclusion to the musical theatre/acting portion of our arts program.
The One Act performed this year was an adaptation of Christopher Durang’s “DMV Tyrant.” As you may know, the author is a Delbarton graduate and the prefornamce featured Coulson Conn and Maz Calello. In this play, a hopeful driver comes up to the desk of a DMV employee looking to renew his license. However, much to the dismay of this customer, the DMV “tyrant” is very disinterested in the situation and quite passive-aggressive. The story then buildss into peak “ragebate” as the DVM representative successfully defeats the customer and makes him quit. Overall, this one act was very funny and had many comedic moments, a certain success! Headed by Mr. Wyatt and Dr. Carlson, the one acts program performed another successful performance!
The other event of the night was the Cabaret. Eleven singers took the stage and performed individual pieces they prepared. In this program, Mr Blaizer works with students on aspects of their song that they can improve. The program is built on peer feedback and targeting the areas where the singer may need improvement. This allows for growth to prepare the singer for the next musical/theatre season in the fall. The songs performed ranged from the somber “Not a Day Goes By” from Merrily We Roll Along to the lively “I Love Betsy” from Honeymoon in Las Vegas. Delbarton also hosted a number of girls from area schools in this performance which enhanced the signing to a much higher range.
Overall, Cabaret and One Acts night was a successful night of comedy, romance, and lively fun all encompassed through the theatre.
