In New Jersey, food insecurity is a massive issue. It is estimated that about two million people in the state are food insecure. In order to help decrease this number, Delbarton School hosts its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive to help those in need. For the past 10 years, Delbarton has been the main contributor of food to the Interfaith Food Pantry in Morristown New Jersey. In the past couple of years, the Delbarton community has raised over 50,000 pounds of food annually for those in need.

While Delbarton always shows incredible support for the food drive, this year is especially important, Following the main effects of the pandemic, Interfaith Food Pantry is in more need than ever due to the increase of people attending their organization due to the loss of jobs and lack of food in their communities. Because of this, it is more important than ever for Delbarton students to donate food to the Pantry through their Deanery. There is no limit to the amount of food you bring in, so students are encouraged to be as generous as possible.

The Thanksgiving Food Drive is an event that brings everybody in the Delbarton Community together. Delbarton is planning to host the Food Drive during Homeroom on Thursday, November 18th. Students will bring in their assigned food items to their designated Deanery on the 18th. They will then pack the food in boxes along with their Deanery members. Next, students will carry these boxes to the bus loop to load the boxes into trucks that will deliver the food to the food pantry. On Friday the 19th students will unload the food trucks at the food pantry. It is customary for fathers to help out on the food drive on Friday so make sure to encourage them to join!

The Food drive is a fantastic opportunity for all students at Delbarton to make a positive change in their community and participate in a meaningful community service project. This event will be a great service project to participate in leading into Thanksgiving Break. It is especially imperative to bring in food because of the pandemic, so make sure to mark down Thursday the 18th to bring in your donations.

On Friday, November 19 there will be a Thanksgiving Prayer Service in the Abbey Church from 2:00 – 2:45 pm.  It is a Jacket and Tie Day.
