NBA Names Curry MVP

Every year the NBA celebrates the best player of the regular season wins the Most Valuable Player Award. 2015 has seen setbacks, recovery, and domination. Kevin Durant, the 2014 MVP, was injured for most of the season. Derrick Rose, the 2012 MVP, returned to the NBA this year and finished the regular season as a healthy member of the Bulls. Stephen Curry, 2015’s NBA MVP, dominated the NBA as the leader of the Golden State Warriors.  His individual and team statistics speak for themselves.

The 27-year-old point guard dominated in the NBA this season. Playing in 80 of 82 games, Curry took his talents to a completely stellar level this year. In addition to averaging 23.8 points, 7.7 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game, his already good 3-point game became better. In fact, he broke his own record for the most 3-pointers scored in a season with 286. He had a spectacular 3-pt shooting percentage, making 44.3% of his attempts (the highest percentage of any player attempting more than three 3-pt field goals per game). He was the third most efficient player in the NBA this year and his true shooting percentage of 63.8% was higher than any of the other NBA MVP competitors, such as Russell Westbrook, James Harden, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis.  Currently in the playoffs, Curry leads the NBA in scoring with 33.8 points per game, 5 points higher than next highest player, James Harden.

Perhaps Curry’s most notable achievement was leading his team to the best record in the NBA. The Warriors recorded 67 wins and 15 losses in the regular season in a tough Western conference with formidable opponents like the Grizzlies, Rockets, Clippers, and Spurs. The Warriors finished with 7 more wins than any other team in the NBA.  As a leader of the Warriors, Curry has a chance to win it all this June if he and his Warriors make it to the NBA Finals.
