One missed opportunity could end a team’s season and send their fans into a frenzy. These high-stakes are what makes the NFL playoffs so memorable and exciting for fans all around the nation.
This year’s playoffs feature a mix of dominant contenders and surprising underdogs. The best earn playoff spots through consistent strong performances, great coaching, and standout players. The Wild Card teams often fight their way late in the season.
In the AFC, the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots tied for the best record at 14-3 and earned first-round byes. The Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, and Los Angeles Chargers had to make it through the Wild Card round. The Broncos beat the Bills in a thrilling 33-30 overtime to advance to the AFC Championship game. The Patriots beat the Texans 28-16 to set up their own trip to Denver.
In the NFC, the top-seed Seattle Seahawks dominated the San Francisco 49ers 41-6, while the Los Angeles Rams barely beat the Chicago Bears 20-17 in overtime. The NFC Championship game will be a battle between the Seahawks and Rams.
The Seattle Seahawks lost key running back Zach Charbonnet to a season-ending injury. It is a blow that could greatly affect their Super Bowl push. THe Buffalo Bills made headlines after firing head coach Sean McDermott following another playoff loss. One of the biggest losses of the year is the Denver Broncos’ starting quarterback Bo Nix suffering a broken ankle. He will miss the rest of the NFL playoffs. Denver is missing another player in J.K. Dobbins. THe running back has missed the last few months with a foot injury but there is a chance he may return.
With the playoffs in full swing, the question for who will get to the Super Bowl still remains in the air. As for the teams eliminated, it appears yet another wasted season with missed opportunities.
