Back in the beginning of November, I gave my preseason favorites for the upcoming college basketball season. Now, with the regular season ending in less than a month, it is time to start looking forward to the NCAA tournament. Here are the top teams in the country from this year that could win it all in Indianapolis.
Michigan
Right now, the Wolverines are my pick to win it all. After yesterday’s AP poll they are the number 3 team in the country with a 27-2 record. Although they lost to Duke on February 21st, I still have them as the team to beat in the tournament. The way Dusty May crafted this team last offseason was fantastic, and I think this roster can take the Wolverines far in the postseason. But, they will have to finish the season without great backup guard LJ Cason who suffered an ACL injury in their last game.
Duke
The Blue Devils are currently the number one team in the land with a 27-2 record. After their win against Michigan they vaulted in the rankings from 3 to 1 and now look like they’re going to be the top overall seed in the tournament. Star forward Cameron Boozer is having an amazing season and has Duke poised for an ACC and national title run.
Arizona
The Wildcats of Arizona are currently the number 2 team in the country with a 27-2 record. They are also first in a stacked Big Twelve Conference this year. Although they have had struggles in March Madness in prior years, Coach Lloyd and star guard Burries are looking to bring a trophy back to Tucson.
UConn
UConn is back in the top four of the AP poll after crushing number 18 St. Johns last Wednesday. Dan Hurley and the Huskies are looking to win the Big East and National championships again after winning the conference in 2024 and the Big Dance in 2023 and 2024.
Iowa State
Iowa State dropped in this week’s AP poll after losses to BYU and Texas Tech. However, the Cyclones are still a dangerous team and have the talent to win both the Big Twelve and the National Championship.
Houston
After a heartbreak in last year’s title game, Houston is looking to finish the job this year. The Cougars dropped to number 7 this week, but are still a strong Big Twelve side. Kingston Flemings is a star, and hopefully can lead the Cougars to their first national title.
